Disney Channel has greenlit Gabby Duran & the Unsittables, a new live-action comedy series from the creative team behind hit XD series Kirby Buckets. The series is currently in production in Vancouver, Canada with a Disney Channel premiere expected next year.
Based on the popular 2015 novel of the same name by Elise Allen and Daryle Conners, the straight-to-series order follows the titular tween protagonist (played by 12-year-old newcomer Kylie Cantrell, pictured) after she accidently lands a job babysitting a group of alien children. The twist is the kids are hiding out on Earth with their families, disguised as regular children, leaving Gabby as their sole protector.
Showrunners and writers Mike Alber and Gabe Snyder (Kirby Buckets) are executive producing alongside Just Add Magic‘s Joe Nussbaum. Omnifilm Entertainment subsidiary Gabby Productions is producing the series for Disney.
In other female-driven Disney news, Disney Consumer Products has unveiled an exclusive new Disney princess comics collection at Target stores and Target.com. The line encompasses hardcover graphic novels (Joe Books), figures (Hasbro) and apparel (Hybrid Promotions), featuring popular Disney Princesses Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas and Rapunzel. The line is inspired by the art style from Joe Books’ popular Disney Princess Comics.
