Aardman, the animation studio behind Shaun the Sheep and Wallace & Gromit, has paired with Studiocanal to produce a new stop-frame feature film called Early Man.

Set in the prehistoric world of dinosaurs and woolly mammoths, Early Man tells the story of a caveman who must unite his tribe against a fierce enemy.

The stop-frame film will be produced by Aardman, with screenwriters Mark Burton and John O’Farrell. It will be directed by Nick Park, marking the Chicken Run co-director’s first film since Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Studiocanal is co-financing the film, and will distribute it in its five territories, as well as handling international sales. The BFI (British Film Institute) is also a partner on the film.

Early Man continues the production partnership with Studiocanal and Aardman, following the success of Shaun the Sheep The Movie, which is scheduled for a US release by Lionsgate on August 7, 2015.
