Carving out a niche for itself in reviving decades-old kids brands, The Nacelle Company has set its sights on a ’90s animated Western toon for its next act.
The LA-based studio behind the rebooted RoboForce animated series is currently developing a new eight-episode TV concept, toy line and comic book range based on Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa (pictured). And it’s looking for production partners. Set to premiere sometime in 2027, this 2D-animated reboot focuses on a gang of literal cowboys trying to protect their town from no-good varmints.
The original C.O.W.-Boys series from Greengrass Productions premiered in 1992 and ran for two seasons (26 episodes) as part of ABC’s Saturday morning lineup. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles artist Ryan Brown created the IP.
Nacelle’s consumer products division has already partnered with Oregon-based Oni Press (which publishes comics for other Nacelle brands) to release a four-issue comic miniseries that sets up the story of the animated series. And the company is also producing action figures, which are available for pre-order online now and expected to ship later this summer.
Nacelle seems very focused on bringing older properties back into the market, and has had success attracting big-name partners to these projects. For example, Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions studio co-produced the new RoboForce: The Animated Series (six x 30 minutes), which was picked up by Tubi in January.
Next up, the company is working on reviving ’90s series Biker Mice From Mars and already has Ryan Reynolds and his Maximum Effort prodco attached. A few other IPs on its reboot slate include TV series Barnyard Commandos (’90s) and toy line Great Garloo (’60s). Nacelle plans for all of these new series to eventually live in a shared universe called the NacelleVerse.
