MediaCorp is spinning off Omens Studios’ 123 Number Squad! and Leo the Wildlife Ranger into two brand-new animated preschool series, giving both projects multi-season greenlights.
Singapore’s leading broadcaster has committed to three seasons of Paula & Pals (pictured) and four seasons of a new iteration of Leo the Wildlife Ranger. Both shows are in the early stages of production and set to deliver next year.
Paula & Pals (68 x seven minutes) puts some of the human characters from numeracy education show 123 Number Squad! in a new format that’s all about social-emotional development. In each episode, Paula and her friends build their communication skills, take responsibility and treat others with respect, while going on imaginary adventures like exploring treasure-filled islands and traversing a magical garden.
123 Number Squad! (itself a spinoff of Omens’ Counting with Paula) launched this year on MediaCorp, Sky (UK) and Youku (China), with Guru Studio managing worldwide distribution and licensing.
Omens is also reinventing adventure series Leo the Wildlife Ranger in an 80 x 11-minute concept that will see Leo and his friends travel the globe on missions to protect nature. The new show will have more action, character development and education than the original toon, which premiered in 2021 and ran for two seasons on broadcasters including Globo (Brazil), Tencent (China) and Amazon in North America.
