Fast-growing lifestyle brand Afro Unicorn is still on a licensing spree, and has just signed its first-ever deal in the personal care category.
The same-name IP owner has tapped hair care and styling brand Magical Beauty to create a line of products called Afro Unicorn Magical Tresses. Targeted at kids ages two to 12, the range will launch this fall at Walmart and CVS Pharmacy stores in the US, before rolling out online internationally in early 2024.
Magical Beauty is Afro Unicorn’s first Black-owned licensing partner, and it joins a roster of more than 40 licensees worldwide, including Just Play (master toy), Random House Books (publishing) and Jay Franco (bedding). Afro Unicorn has also gotten into party supplies (Unique) and apparel (Mad Engine). Last year, these lines rolled out in 3,800 Walmart stores across the US and Puerto Rico, according to a release.
In February, Afro Unicorn announced its intention to expand into entertainment through a partnership with US studio Pure Imagination. The two companies will develop and produce TV, digital, theatrical and gaming content based on the IP.
