Sesame Workshop and Tokyo-based streamer U-NEXT have partnered to deliver new family-oriented content in Japan.

Under the agreement, U-NEXT will offer TV programming, read-along videos and e-book titles from Sesame Workshop on its platforms.

The multi-year deal also gives subscribers of the Japanese video-on-demand service access to content that has not yet been released in the region, such as Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, docuseries Through Our Eyes and Sesame Street spinoff series Mecha Builders. Sesame Street will also be the first brand featured in U-NEXT LEARN, a upcoming section of the streaming service that will offer educational videos, children’s e-books and original read-along videos.

Sesame Workshop has been busy lately expanding its international reach through content initiatives like Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy, and new consumer product deals. This partnership with U-NEXT comes on the heels of setting up Sony Creative Products as the licensing agent for Sesame Street in Japan.
