Disney EMEA and Finnish broadcaster YLE have co-commissioned a project together for the first time. Created by Gigglebug Entertainment and co-produced by Zodiak Kids, The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti is an animated comedy for ages six and up.
The off-beat comedy is set in a town above the Arctic Circle, where a surfer boy, his cousin and a yellow yeti become unlikely friends.
The 50 x 11-minute series, which comes with a bonus pack of 11 x two-minute shorts, was created by Gigglebug Entertainment creative director Joonas Utti and CEO Anttu Harlin. The story is inspired by a Costa Rican exchange student who came to live with Utti when he was young, according to Harlin.
The project has been co-developed by Zodiak and Disney EMEA. Utti will direct the series, with Zodiak head of content development Gary Milne serving as creative producer. Harlin and Zodiak CEO Benoit di Sabatino are attached as executive producers.
Zodiak holds the international distribution rights to the series, which went into production this summer for a 2022 launch. The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti will air on Disney’s linear channels and on Disney+ across the EMEA. Several other Nordic broadcasters have picked up the show, including DRTV (Denmark), NRK (Norway) and SVT (Sweden).
This new commission comes on the heels of a greenlight from Nickelodeon International for Gigglebug’s Best & Bester series. The 52 x 11-minute animated comedy follows two friends who spend their time comparing the best things of all time. YLE also co-commissioned Best & Bester, which is co-produced with Eye Present.
