Australian toyco TPF Toys is gearing up to debut its mermaid-themed toy range, the brainchild of Pound Puppies creator Mike Bowling, in the US market.

The Splashlings collectible toy line features a play set (pictured), mermaids, shells, more than 100 pets, underwater gems and other deep-sea treasures. Collectible cards from Upper Deck are also planned to be released later this year.

TPF Toys’ Splashings range will be unveiled for the first time in the US at New York Toy Fair in February, and then it will launch Stateside exclusively at Toys”R”Us.

Toronto-headquartered prodco Shaftesbury (The Moblees, Life With Derek) will simultaneously debut an all-new animated Splashlings digital series in-step with the US toy launch.

The collectible toy market has been particularly hot over the past year, led by grocery-themed Shopkins brand by Australia’s Moose Toys, which has sold 200 million units and counting.
