WildBrain’s rebranded AVOD business unit, WildBrain Spark, continues to light up YouTube. Total year-over-year views increased 42% to 33 billion, total subscriptions is up 118% to 109 million, and watch time grew 28% to 166 billion minutes across more than 225,000 videos and 650 kids brands. Combined, the increases drove revenue up 20% to US$52 million for the full fiscal year.
In terms of partnerships, Smurfs, Miffy, Playmobil and Moomins were among 46 new kids brands that joined the network. As for the unit’s global presence, WildBrain Spark EVP and managing director Jon Gisby says a lot of work has gone into expanding internationally.
“We opened in Japan and Indonesia, and we just launched a Hindi channel, so there’s lots of local language content we can tailor to those markets,” he says.
Looking to 2020, Gisby expects higher growth for relaunched brands like Animal Mechanicals and WildBrain Spark’s new original pencil-mation IP Boy and Dragon.
