SmartStudy’s Korean subsidiary Pinkfong swam into second place (from fifth last year) in the Hot50 Digital Media category, thanks to ongoing growth from its viral animated hit “Baby Shark.” Year over year, the YouTube channel for the famous family of singing and dancing sharks grew 93% in views, and 158% in subscribers. The original “Baby Shark Dance” video also reached four billion eyeballs, making it the fifth most-watched video in YouTube history. The swimming fishies and their catchy “Doo doo doo doo doo” chorus continued to resonate on the music charts, enjoying a 20-week streak on the Billboard Hot 100.

Pinkfong is in development with Nickelodeon on a Baby Shark TV series, and Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products is set to manage worldwide consumer products (excluding Asia) for the IP. In addition to a new live show running until spring 2020, 46 US licensees and more than 200 worldwide partners have been secured for the franchise to date.
