TV-Loonland plans to expand its programming reach on big and small screens in Germany with the launch of a new distribution company called Loonland Pictures. Focusing solely on German-speaking territories, the division will sell TV-L’s catalogue and troll for third-party, family-oriented animated series.
The unit has already signed its first deal with 20th Century Fox and Berlin, Germany’s NFP Marketing, which will distribute and promote Teleimagination/Nelvana animated feature Heidi in Germany during the holidays. The theatrical release marks the 125th anniversary of Swiss author Johanna Spyri’s classic book.
This territory-specific distribution company is TV-Loonland’s second, with British subsidiary Metrodome looking after the shop’s home entertainment and movie distribution in the U.K. TV-L owns an 82% stake in the London-based company, which mainly sells theatrical and DVD rights to adult-skewing films.
