While CCTV continues construction on one of the modern wonders of the world – its small city/skyscraper headquarters in Beijing – the Chinese pubcaster’s movie channel arm CCTV-6 is aiming to build an audience with Disney Channel’s smash hit High School Musical.

Although no firm air date has been announced yet, the singing high schoolers should grace Chinese airwaves later this year, adding substantially to the 100 million viewings the movie has already scored. High School Musical made its international terrestrial debut in July 2006 on Seven Network Australia and has proceeded to garner top ratings throughout New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the UK.

CCTV-6 also renewed its multi-year agreement to broadcast the Academy Awards live on February 25, including a 30-minute ‘red’ carpet pre-show with Disney’s Buena Vista International Television Asia-Pacific division.
