Offering a healthier alternative to the chocolate overload that typically characterizes Easter gift-giving, retailer KB Toys has started pushing themed toy baskets to parents and grandparents who take issue with the holiday’s candy-centrism.

Baskets themes include: Action Figure, featuring a Star Wars helmet stuffed with various action figures; Diecast Car, which is a plastic dump truck packed with miniature vehicles; and Artistic, consisting of a beach pail filled with small art supplies, craft kits, crayons and Play-Doh.

KB, which is the country’s largest mall-based specialty toy retailer, will move baskets through all 600 of its stores, as well as offering custom wrapping services on-site.

Easter is quickly becoming the second most important selling season to US toycos after Christmas.
