Play Along has snapped up the master toy rights for internet icon Domo.
The toyco, a subsidiary of Jakks Pacific, and Big Tent Entertainment (which owns the property outside of Japan) inked a long-term agreement that will see the development of a wide range of Domo toys. Play Along plans to kick off the line with talking and traditional plush and moulded plastic figures this fall to coincide with the character’s TV debut on NickToons in the US and Nickelodeon International nets worldwide.
Play Along joins a growing list of licensees that already includes uclick (mobile content), Andrews McMeel (greeting cards and calendars) and Changes (apparel).
The furry rectangular monster began life in 1998 in a series of stop-motion interstitials airing on Japan’s pubcaster NHK, and has since turned into a pop culture phenomenon, thanks in part to YouTube and the popularity of user-generated content.
