Only three weeks after its launch, William Baumann, COO of PorchLight Entertainment, is looking at updating the company’s kids YouTube-inspired site KidVideos.com. ‘We want the site to reflect what is happening in kids’ lives, what they are interested in, how they are spending their time,’ says Baumann, explaining that the site has so far fielded 500 kids-focused video uploads with little promotion other than online viral exposure.
With the infrastructure set up to carefully vet submitted videos and post them, Baumann is looking for ways to expand the site’s presence and relevance by adding youth hosts to help visitors navigate through the kid-generated vids. As well, the search is on for a slew of youth ‘camcorder reporters.’
‘We want these reporters to cover what is of interest to kids in the news, whether it’s a movie premiere, a concert or the release of a new video game – not just in L.A., but across the country,’ says Baumann.
Also in the cards for the site is a reorganization of the content into specific areas of interest such as sports, pets, and music. The updated KidVideos.com, with the aforementioned additions, should be live within the next two months.
KidVideos.com is advertising supported, but the focus right now is more on getting the content right for the broad five to 15 target demo, rather than inking large advertising deals just yet. ‘We have to develop a connection with kids around America first,’ says Baumann. ‘That is our first priority.’
