Two BBC divisions are taking the New Year as an opportunity to commit to original teen programming.

BBC Drama has put out a call to independent production companies to pitch two new live-action drama series for young audiences (age 12 to 16) to be broadcast on BBC Three and broadband service BBC Switch. Pitches need to include a comprehensive multiplatform plan, and be squarely aimed at the teenage audience.

BBC Fiction controller Jane Tranter is overseeing the commissioning process, and she’s looking to complete production in time for a winter 2009 broadcast date.
