It looks like Hasbro is joining the crowdfunding party.

The Rhode Island-based toyco is tapping into the power of crowdfunding platform Indiegogo in order to find its next face-to-face party-themed game.

The challenge is designed to help Hasbro identify one big idea that it can help cultivate and bring to market.

Starting today through September 30, Hasbro will call on US-based game designers to share their ideas for a party game on www.nextgreatgamechallenge.com.

Five game designers or teams of designers will be chosen as finalists and will be invited to launch campaigns for their concepts on Indiegogo starting October 30, which will also be promoted on Hasbro’s partner page.

Ideas will be evaluated by a team of Hasbro game experts and designers, who will be specifically looking at each concept’s gameplay mechanics, theme and potential forviability.

The grand prize winner selected by Hasbro in December will receive US$10,000 and a trip to Hasbro headquarters to meet with and work with the game development team.

The initiative, which comes as the company saw revenues within its games category decline by 6% to US$211.6 million last quarter, marks Hasbro’s first foray into crowdfunding. It is also one of the first projects led by the Hasbro Gaming Lab, a team at Hasbro dedicated to connecting with the growing gaming community to discover and develop new games.
