With all indications that the theme park and amusement sector will continue on its growth path, Howard Smith has been promoted to EVP of Nickelodeon Recreation.

In his newly expanded role, Smith will oversee all aspects of Nickelodeon’s global recreation business, including live tours, theme parks, hotels, cruises and new opportunities for kids and families to interact with its brand and characters.

Smith was most recently SVP of Nickelodeon Recreation where he built the business from scratch to generate an estimated US$200 million annually at retail.

He recently cemented a partnership between Nickelodeon and the Mall of America to create a Nickelodeon standalone theme park, Nickelodeon Universe, which is scheduled to open on March 15.
