In a two-pronged deal that will significantly bolster its educon catalogue, Lionsgate has picked up the home entertainment rights to LeapFrog Enterprises’ DVD library and brokered a partnership for developing, producing and distributing a raft of new direct-to-DVD features with the company’s chief creative exec and producer Chris D’Angelo.
Rights to Leapfrog’s existing five DVD titles, which have sold four million units to date, will start migrating to Lionsgate in 2009 as they become available. The multi-year deal gives Lionsgate worldwide rights in all territories except China.
This new deal comes on the heels of Lionsgate’s announcement last week of a multiyear home entertainment agreement to distribute HIT Entertainment’s valuable catalogue of kids TV programming throughout North America.
