CBeebies presence expands in Asia

Pay-TV platforms in Japan and South Korea have picked up CBeebies programming blocks from distributor BBC Worldwide.

BBC Worldwide has inked deals with KBSN, the commercial arm of South Korean pubcaster KBS, and Japanese children’s television channel, Kids Station, for CBeebies programming blocks on both pay-TV platforms.

In South Korea, KBS Kids will broadcast preschool CBeebies shows Sarah & Duck, Hey Duggee (pictured) and Baby Jake for one hour each weekday. Starting at 10 a.m. and repeating at 2 p.m., the new CBeebies-branded block is expected to reach more than 16 million subscribers. ItĀ launches on May 5, which coincides with Children’s Day in the country.

In Japan, Kids StationĀ is picking up 100 episodes of CBeebies content, including Wibbly Pig, Dinopaws and Hey Duggee. The three series will air from 10:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. on weekdays, beginning June 22.
