The Walt Disney Company has acquired the Disney Store chain in North America from subsidiaries of The Children’s Place Retail Stores, just four years after Disney licensed the kids apparel retailer to manage the branded stores. In this most recent move, Disney acquired approximately 220 Disney Stores in the US and Canada. The actual number of acquired stores is contingent on negotiations with current landlords.

Disney has also obtained the right to close approximately 98 Disney Stores in the US and two in Canada.

Disney vet James D. Fielding has accepted the position of president, Disney Stores Worldwide. He will be charged with overseeing merchandising and all other operations of the Disney Stores in North America and the 107 stores in Europe.
