Golden Globe Award-winning actress Rachel Griffiths (Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, Brothers & Sisters) has signed on to direct the second season of the teen-skewing action series Nowhere Boys.
Griffiths will make her TV directorial debut with the ABC3 series.
Filming of the second season, announced earlier this year, has already begun in Melbourne. Griffiths is slated to direct the third block of episodes in late August. Series two will head to broadcast in November of this year.
The second season of Nowhere Boys is produced by Matchbox Pictures, with the help of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Film Victoria. The series is being sold internationally by NBCUniversal, which also has an ownership stake in Matchbox. Australia and New Zealand distribution will be handled by The Australian Children’s Television Foundation.
The first Nowhere Boys series has been well-received: it was awarded Best Children’s Television Series at the AACTA Awards 2014, Most Outstanding Children’s Program at the 2014 TV Week Logie Awards, and it took home the Youth Jury Prize from Prix Jeunesse International 2014.
Most recently, Griffiths starred as Aunt Ellie in Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks and Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Granger in the Australian-American TV series Camp, also produced by Matchbox Pictures.
