Sony Pictures Consumer Products announced today that DHX Media-owned licensing agency CPLG (Copyright Promotions Licensing Group) will handle upcoming film and television properties for merchandise, retail and publishing in France and Italy. In the Land Down Under, Merchantwise signed a similar deal with Sony to oversee Australia and New Zealand. The Australia-based company was, up until very recently, the licensing agent for Peppa Pig in its native country.
There are same scary properties in the new deal, namely the upcoming children’s horror movie Goosebumps, starring Jack Black, and animated feature Hotel Transylvania 2. Both films are scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.
The Goosebumps TV series recently arrived on iTunes in Australia, with 74 episodes for download. The show and movie are based off the Scholastic-published book series that has sold more than 350 million copies worldwide. It is the second best-selling book series of all time (trailing only Harry Potter) and new novels are in works for next year. The first Hotel Transylvania film, starring the voice talent of Adam Sandler, was a Golden Globe nominee for best animated film.
