Mattel-owned HIT Entertainment, home to such preschool brands as Angelina Ballerina and Thomas & Friends, has granted Universal Studios Home Entertainment the DVD, SVOD and VOD distribution rights to its content library in the US and Canada.

The multi-year partnership allows Universal to market and distribute packaged media and multi-platform digital content for hundreds of titles within HIT’s preschool portfolio. The deal, which will go into effect on October 1, spans Blu-ray, DVD, Electronic Sell-Through, SVOD and VOD platforms.

Additionally, the two companies will work together to distribute new content produced by HIT, including the upcoming Thomas & Friends feature length special, “Tale of the Brave,” due out this fall.

Universal is no stranger to Mattel content. The company currently distributes Blu-Ray, DVD and digital animated content based on Mattel brands including Barbie, Monster High,  and Hot Wheels, as well as live-action content for American Girl.
