As the 100th birthday of its creator Tove Jansson approaches next year, iconic Finnish publishing property Moomin is getting a theme park in Japan, slated to open in 2015.

The Japanese theme park will be overseen by Moomin Monogatari, a joint-venture between licensees FinTech Global (FGI) and Puuha International.

Moomin agent Bulls Licensing says the deal adds to a growing Moomin program that includes licensees like Suzuki, Samsung and Uniqlo and generates more than US$6 million at retail annyally. And for 2014, expect new Moomin animation and the launch of an official Moomin-branded webshop.

The existing Moomin theme park in Finland welcomes more than 200,000 visitors annually.
