In celebration of 50 years of sci-fi hit Doctor Who, CBBC magazine series Blue Peter is launching a competition for kids ages six to 15 to design a gadget that could be featured in the series next year.
Launching officially on Blue Peter‘s November 21 show with details available post-broadcast on the Blue Peter website, the competition will let kids in three categories (six to eight, nine to 11, and 12 to 15) design a brand new sonic device that could be used by main characters Sontaran Commander Strax, Madame Vastra or Jenny Flint.
Entries will be judged by a panel including Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat, Doctor Who producer Nikki Wilson, Doctor Who production designer Michael Pickwoad, CBBC presenter Chris Johnson, Blue Peter series producer Ellen Evans and Blue Peter editor Ewan Vinnicombe.
The winners will be announced on Blue Peter’s December 19 Christmas special with the first place winner receiving a trip to the Doctor Who set in Cardiff.
Also marking the 50th anniversary, Blue Peter will air two live episodes dedicated to Doctor Who— Doctor Who: Blue Peter Special (November 21) and Doctor Who: Blue Peter Party (November 23).
The episodes will feature a live alien designing competition and special appearances from the stars of the show including Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman.
