ABC Family has promoted The Secret Life of the American Teenager creator Marci Cooperstein to VP of programming and development, where she will be charged with developing new original series across drama and comedy genres.

Cooperstein will also oversee existing one-hour dramas, including Twisted.

Most recently as executive director of programming and development at ABC Family, on top of the original drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which became the number-one comedy series in ABC Family history, Cooperstein also created Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth.

Under the watch of original programming EVP Kate Juergens, to whom Cooperstein will report, ABC Family has significantly boosted its original programming output.  With five new series and three movies premiering this year, along with a crop of others in development.
