More than 125 products in video games, toys, apparel and publishing based on the much-hyped Avatar by James Cameron are slated to hit retailers from Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising’s roster of licensees.
Ubisoft recently released its new title James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game on Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and PSP, Nintendo Wii and DS, and PC. The gameco will also release James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game Limited Edition for the three next-gen consoles, with the 360 and PS3 versions to include two exclusive six-inch Mattel action figures available only through purchase of the limited edition.
And to complement toy licensee Mattel’s augmented reality product line, Fox has brought on Sideshow Collectibles for a line of statues, maquettes, life-size busts and dioramas, with additional collectibles from Gentle Giant Studios and The Noble Collection to come in 2010.
In apparel, Fox has teamed up with JEM Sportswear and Awake for a line of t-shirts, sweatshirts and fashion tops for young men and older boys. Accessory Innovations will introduce a line of backpacks and bags.
On the publishing side, Abrams and HarperCollins will launch five books with the film’s premiere this month.
All products will be available at major and specialty retailers, including Walmart, JC Penny, Target, K-Mart/Sears, Hot Topic, Meijers and Nordstrom. Fox also recently announced major marketing and promo partners for the film including McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Panasonic and LG Mobile.
