Canada’s DHX Media on Wednesday unveiled an early harvest from its recent acquisition of Cookie Jar Entertainment: the sale of Caillou‘s fourth season to US pubcaster PBS Kids.
PBS Kids will take the latest 26 episodes of the 2D-animated preschool kids series.
Halifax-based DHX Media, as it released its first quarter results Wednesday, also revealed it has put its finger on US$8 million in potential cost savings after acquiring Cookie Jar Entertainment to create Canada’s largest kids entertainment group.
DHX Media posted a loss of US$72,000 for the three months to September 20, against a year-earlier profit of US$318,000, on total revenue down 20% to US$13.51 million.
In related DHX news, distributor Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment has expanded its existing digital licensing partnership with DHX with a new three-year renewal that includes the continuation of rights to 33 DHX properties and the addition of 29 new properties to be released in the US. The family TV properties include Inspector Gadget, Super Mario Bros., Madeline, Strawberry Shortcake and Paddington Bear.
