Screen Australia has announced it’s backing the inaugural Asian Animation Summit (AAS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, December 10-11, 2012, by partnering with ABC Television as a member of the supervisory board of the AAS, and will provide financial support with the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to bring up to 10 Australian producers to the event.

The AAS, which aims to create new opportunities in children’s television through international collaborative relationships, brings together four regional screen agencies – Korea Creative Content Agency, Multimedia Development Corporation of Malaysia, Media Development Authority of Singapore and Screen Australia –  to help animation producers in the Asian region acquire financing and co-production partnerships.

Producers attending can present two types of projects to potential co-producers, broadcasters and distributors – partially-financed projects seeking production finance, and projects in development.

The AAS is open to regional broadcasters, producers, international distributors and broadcasters from Europe and North America to attend.

Kidscreen has been named the event services partner for the AAS, and more information about submitting projects to the AAS will be available from Screen Australia later in the year.
