Universal Partnerships & Licensing (UP&L), Illumination Entertainment and Hybrid Apparel have partnered on a deal that will see the companies become the domestic master apparel licensee for the upcoming Illumination feature film Despicable Me 2 which will premiere in theaters worldwide on July 3, 2013.

Hybrid’s apparel line, which will hit retail stores next summer, will include boys, juniors, mens and girls t-shirts, fleece, 2fers, thermals, tanks and tops featuring popular Despicable Me characters including the minions. Plans are also in place to launch products in the toddler category.

The deal comes after Universal Partnerships & Licensing (UP&L), Illumination Entertainment and Thinkway Toys recently partnered to produce toys (figures, toys, plush, dolls, playsets, vehicles, role play and novelty) based on the sequel.

Despicable Me, which grossed more than $543 million globally, became the tenth highest-grossing animated film in US history and the second highest-grossing animated film of 2010.
