Astral’s Family Channel and Playhouse Disney Canada have ordered up new eps for two original Canuck productions.
Family Channel greenlit a second season of Temple Street Production’s 13 x half-hour live-action comedy, Wingin’ It, while Playhouse Disney Canada has commissioned new episodes of Radical Sheep’s Stella and Sam, for both the English-language network and the newly-launched Playhouse Disney Télé. Slated for broadcast in 2011 both series will begin production on new episodes in Toronto later this summer.
Michael Goldsmith, director of original programming, says the shows play into Astrals channel mandate which call for humor and interesting characters for Family Channel and infusing fun content with learning for Playhouse Disney.
Wingin’ It follows 16-year-old angel-in-training Porter Jackson who has been tasked with transforming 15-year-old Carl Montclaire into the most popular student at Bennett High in order to get his wings. Porter finds his task to be trickier than he first imagined as not only is Carl incredibly unlucky but he also isn’t keen on having an angel meddle in his life.
Stella and Sam, based on the book of the same name, focuses on the relationship between the inquisitive but shy four-year-old Sam and his outgoing big sister, Stella. As they explore the world around them, each encounters fun, adventure and ultimately self-discovery. Season one of the series is set to premiere on both Playhouse Disney and Playhouse Disney Télé in fall 2010.
