L.A.-based video game publisher D3 has inked a global publishing deal with DreamWorks Animation and secured the licensing rights to develop and publish game titles based on DreamWorks Animation feature films Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Rise of the Guardians in 2012 and The Croods in 2013.
Madagascar 3: The Video Game will be available in June 2012 coinciding with theatrical premiere of the film on June 8, 2012 in North America. The game will follow the adventures popular characters Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo as they journey across Europe with a traveling circus looking to find a way home to New York City. To date, the Madagascar films have grossed more than US$1.1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Rise of the Guardians, scheduled for release over the December 2012 holiday season, is an adventure game featuring a group of heroes (the immortal Guardians) with extraordinary abilities who must join together to protect the children of the world from the evil clutches of an evil spirit known as Pitch.
The Croods game, scheduled for release in spring 2013, takes place in a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious and follows the Crood family, led by Grug, an overprotective father who has to do everything he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes.
The deals follow on the heels of DreamWorks Animation naming toyco Mattel as the master toy licensee for the films Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Rise of the Guardians, The Croods, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Penguins of Madagascar.
