Oaktree Capital Management has acquired New York-based FilmRise and its distribution catalogue of more than 30,000 TV shows and films for an undisclosed amount.
Post-sale, Oaktree merged its own distribution subsidiary Shout! Studios with FilmRise to form a new entity called Radial Entertainment that will now sell more than 70,000 TV series and films across streaming, broadcasting and home entertainment worldwide.
Shout! Studios CEO and co-founder Garson Foos (pictured) has been chosen to head up Radial as CEO, while FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher will serve as executive chairman.
Oaktree’s special situations managing director Jared Frandle expects the merger to quickly scale Radial up as a competitive distributor in the rapidly evolving digital entertainment and streaming landscape. While a majority of its titles are adult-skewing, it will also oversee a healthy kids & family library that includes Coraline, Summer Wars, The Wiggles, Bakugan and Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Oakree acquired Shout! for an undisclosed amount in 2023 as its first move into entertainment production and distribution. All told, the company manages US$203 billion in assets, and Frandle says the plan is to continue expanding Radial’s catalogue through content partnerships and more mergers and acquisitions.
