DEALS: Sonic joins Magic: The Gathering with three card collections

  • Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast has struck a deal with SEGA to create three new Magic: The Gathering trading card collections themed around Sonic the Hedgehog. All three Secret Lair-branded Sonic drops will roll out to specialty game stores starting on August 21, totalling 21 new cards all told. Wizards has had similar partnerships in the past with Embracer Group (The Lord of the Rings), Square Enix (Final Fantasy) and Nickelodeon (SpongeBob Squarepants, Avatar: The Last Airbender).

 

  • Banijay Kids & Family has sold its Once Upon a Time… 2D-animated documentaries to four new broadcast partners. China’s UYoung has picked up Once Upon a Time… Objects; Mediawan Thematics will bring Once Upon a Time… Space to French-speaking channels across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and the South Pacific; and France Vision Service will feature Once Upon a Time… The Explorers on its in-flight service. Additionally, OneGate Media bought global VOD rights to the franchise’s shows devoted to Man, Planet Earth, Space, The Americas, The Discoveries and The Explorers

 

  • Xilam Animation has inked a wave of global consumer products deals for two of its key kids franchises ahead of tomorrow’s France Licensing Day event in Paris. New licensees for comedy series Zig & Sharko include Game Plak (marble board game), PTS (plushies), Trade Invaders (board game) and Snuggly Figs (apparel). Meanwhile, Topla will develop a card game based on 2D-animated comedy series Buddybot that will launch later this year across Europe, Canada and the US.
