Hello Kitty and CoComelon to cross over

Under a new collaboration deal, Moonbug and Sanrio are prepping a co-branded show featuring their biggest franchises, with more initiatives to follow.

Moonbug Entertainment and Sanrio are teaming up for a new series that will see the worlds of Hello Kitty and CoComelon collide for the first time.

It’s part of a multi-year partnership between the two companies that was announced today by Kevin Mayer, co-CEO of Moonbug’s parentco Candle Media, during a talk at this week’s APOS Summit in Bali.

While the plot and format of the series are still in development, it’s confirmed that it will feature fan-favorite characters like JJ, Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll. Moonbug is handling global distribution for the project, which is expected to launch in 2026 with a YouTube rollout also planned.

In addition to their co-branded content plans, Moonbug and Sanrio say they will also bring “broader consumer initiatives” to the market.

Be it on screen or on retail shelves, brand crossovers have become a common tactic for popular kids IPs looking to expand their audience reach—as evidenced most recently by a heavy-hitter partnership between Mattel and Hasbro and Cloudco’s collaborations in 2024 with WildBrain and Sanrio.

It’s worth noting that this new team-up with Sanrio should benefit from Moonbug’s strong presence in the Asian market, with some regional deals already under its belt. Recently, the company produced a Singaporean edition of Blippi (20 x 11 minutes) in partnership with local broadcaster Mediacorp, which is set to roll it out next month.
