ViX, the Spanish-language streaming service owned by TelevisaUnivision, is expected to see massive growth this year—at a rate surpassing many of the American market’s biggest streamers.
New data from research company Ampere Analysis estimates that ViX will reach 10.5 million paying customers in North and South America this year, increasing its subscriber base by 18%. It’s an impressive expansion rate that’s well ahead of Ampere’s forecasted growth for streaming competitors like Apple TV+ (14%) and Max (9%).
With its appeal to LatAm consumers and a freemium model (encompassing free, ad-based and ad-free tiers), ViX has grown its subscriber base by 70% over the last three years.
Ampere notes that a big turning point for the streamer was a partnership with Charter Communications that helped it attract more eyeballs in the US—and it’s expected to drive around 900,000 subscribers total between 2024 and 2026.
While it first launched in the US as PrendeTV in 2021, ViX officially debuted in 2022 after a merger with TelevisaUnivision’s other streaming services. Children’s content only makes up 4% of the exclusive titles on ViX Premium, but it “proves to be a key motivator for subscribers to the platform in the US,” Ampere notes. For 32% of US respondents to a survey conducted by Ampere, “I subscribe so my children have something to watch” was cited as the top motivation for signing up to ViX.
ViX carries content from popular children’s franchises like Pocoyo, El Reino Infantil, Babar, Shark Academy and Bananas in Pyjamas. Other popular kids titles on the streamer include live-action family movie Alice no Mundo da Internet, 2D-animated series El Chavo Animado (2006 to 2014) and superhero toon El Chapulín Colorado animado. And for a slightly older demo, ViX also offers teen dramas such as La edad de la ira (Atresmedia Televisión) and Skam España (Movistar+).
