Young romantasy fans are about to get their hands on more than just books, as IMG Licensing has finalized a multiyear deal to rep all categories of consumer products for superstar author Sarah J. Maas (pictured).
Under this exclusive worldwide licensing agreement, IMG will expand Maas’s Bloomsbury-published literary IPs into toys, games, collectibles, food & beverage, apparel, beauty, lifestyle, home décor, cosplay and immersive fan experiences.
One of the bestselling authors of 2024, Maas’s work has been credited with popularizing the youth-skewing “romantasy” genre—tales of romance set in fantastical worlds. Her books have sold more than 70 million copies in English globally.
Maas’s biggest hits tend to revolve around teen protagonists. A Court of Thorns and Roses, for example, tags along with a 19-year-old huntress who navigates epic love and dark forces in a magical land called Prythian. And her 2012 debut novel Throne of Glass, a story about a teen assassin in a corrupt kingdom, was nominated for a Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in the teen category the following year.
Maas’s book sales have no doubt also been buoyed by BookTok, the influential literary community on TikTok, where her work is adored. A whopping 1.6% of all physical books sold in the US (300 million) in the first half of 2024 hailed from her catalogue.
