Looking for another demonstration of anime’s growing global popularity? The winners of this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards were decided by a record-breaking 51 million fan votes from around the world.
While older-skewing series Solo Leveling (A-1 Pictures) scored nine wins and was a clear standout at last night’s award ceremony in Tokyo, some tween- and teen-friendly titles also got a chance to shine.
Coming-of-age movie Look Back (Studio Durian) earned the coveted award for Anime Film of the Year with its story about two school girls whose friendship formed by a shared passion for drawing is tested when tragedy strikes.
And Science Saru’s buzzy teen series Dan Da Dan (pictured), which revolves around two high-schoolers with supernatural powers who investigate ghosts and aliens, won Best Character Design, Best Opening Sequence and Best Anime Song.
A-1 Pictures also scored a Best Comedy win with Mashle: Magic and Muscles, a teen-skewing series that follows a young student training to become a “Divine Visionary” at Easton Magic Academy.
A full list of this year’s winners is available on the Crunchyroll website.
