The LEGO Group is strengthening its foothold in the US market with the announcement that it will build a new distribution center in Prince George, Virginia.
LEGO plans to spend more than US$366 million on this build, with construction beginning later this year. Chief operations officer Carsten Rasmussen says the two-million-square-foot facility is part of the company’s global supply strategy to build factories and distribution centers in its major markets to reduce lead times for buyers and position for long-term growth.
When it’s completed in 2027, the Virginia RDC will create more than 1,700 new LEGO Group jobs, in addition to 305 more on-site jobs to be managed by an unannounced third-party logistics partner that will operate the facility.
LEGO is also opening a US$1-billion factory in Virginia before the end of the year. The company started this build in 2023, and it will feature up to 60,000 solar panels (enough to power up to 10,000 American homes) to make the facility carbon-neutral.
In addition to these two investments in Virginia, LEGO operates an existing RDC in Fort Worth, Texas that currently services its network of major retailers and more than 100 LEGO stores across the US. The company is also in the process of moving its US headquarters from Enfield, Connecticut to Boston, Massachusetts next year.
