Red Animation opens a new studio in the Canary Islands

Tapping into the region's tax credit, the Peruvian company has also inked a deal to co-produce several feature films with frequent partner Seru Animation.

Peru’s Red Animation Studios, which does service and original work in 2D and CG, has opened a new location in the Canary Islands to take advantage of the region’s generous tax credit.

Called Red Canarias, this outpost will allow the company to tap into a 54% cash rebate on qualifying production spend. But the expansion also gets Red closer to one of its key clients, Germany’s Seru Animation, which contracted it to work on CG-animated features My Fairy Troublemaker (2022) and Elfkins 2 (2024).

Taking advantage of their new proximity, Red and Seru have signed a broader agreement to co-produce a slate of CG-animated films, all of which will factor the Canary Islands tax credit into their financing plans.

Red Animation producer Guillermo Peraza Fariña, a former Mondo TV Producciones Canarias production supervisor, will oversee day-to-day operations at the new location as studio manager, as well as working with Red Animation’s head of production Marie Castañeda to expand its pipeline and output.

Since launching 15 years ago, Red Animation has produced more than 2,000 minutes of CG and 2D animation for kids & family audiences. Some of its work includes Little Angels and Crayola Crew for Moonbug Entertainment, plus Angry Birds: Maker Space (pictured) seasons two and three for Rovio. It’s also developing the series Spark of the Mechas and in production on an original CG-animated feature film called Kai.
