Janine Weigold—an exec in Netflix’s kids & family international originals team for EMEA—has left the streamer.
Based out of Netflix’s London offices, Weigold was responsible for sourcing original content from Europe for the streaming giant’s global kids & family audience. She made the move to Netflix’s animation department in 2019 from Super RTL, where she served as head of children’s content for almost five years. Before both of these roles, she was Nickelodeon’s VP of acquisitions, development and production for Northern Europe.
Despite this departure, Netflix says it remains “fully committed” to European animation. As evidence of this, the streamer pointed to recent EMEA productions, including the children’s series Wolf King from UK’s Lime Pictures that premiered on March 20 and will launch its second season later this year.
Other upcoming kids projects include French studio TAT Productions’ animated series Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight (due out on April 30) and Folivari’s Seven Bears (set to release later this year). Last May, Netflix also debuted the live-action show Geek Girl from UK-based Ruby Rock, and say more projects are actively in development that are yet to be announced.
Netflix is also heading to Annecy later this year to screen the animated films across its entire slate.
