Susan McCauley’s Ghost Hunters IP may soon be scaring tweens/teens in a new medium, with LA’s Magenta Light Studios—Yellowstone executive producer Bob Yari’s fledging shingle—working on a TV adaptation of the popular book series.
Magenta has a first-look deal with producer Yasmine Golchan, who presented Ghost Hunters to Yari with McCauley. (Golchan is also a kids author in her own right, having launched a tween title called The Adventures of Yasmine in Hollywood last year.)
Published by Celtic Sea, Ghost Hunters is a middle-grade horror series with four titles released between 2020 and 2022. The premise revolves around a 12-year-old boy who gains the ability to see ghosts after a car accident, and then partners with his friends to solve paranormal mysteries. Plot and format details for the series are still under wraps, but the project seems well-positioned to meet a heightened market demand for spooky kids programming.
Although his credits are mostly on primetime TV series for older audiences, Yari has also produced a handful of family comedy films over the years, including The War with Grandpa (2020), Christmas in Wonderland (2007) and a pair of Agent Cody Banks pics (2003 and 2004).
