Netflix has acquired a second season of Nippon TV’s live-action kids series Old Enough!, which sees kids go out “alone” on errands like shopping and delivering packages (although parents are involved in the task planning, and a hidden camera crew is always close by).
Old Enough! has enjoyed a 30-year run in Japan. This past March, Netflix acquired global streaming rights to the 10-episode first season of the reality series, which quickly became one of its top kids shows worldwide, said Nippon in a release.
The Japanese broadcaster has parlayed the show’s success into a spinoff that catches up with kids years later to find out what they remember about their adventures, and Netflix has also bought some of these short videos to package with the second season episodes.
To date, Nippon has inked format deals for local versions of Old Enough! in Italy, the UK, Vietnam and China, and rights for other international formats are available.
