French net Canal+ and Italian public broadcaster RAI have co-commissioned a new fish-out-of-water comedy called The Crunchers for kids ages seven and up.

The 2D-animated series (52 x 11 minutes) centers around a family of trolls who make the move from the countryside to the city—and their humorous antics to blend in among human beings.

French prodco Je Suis Bien Content (Best Bugs Forever) developed the concept and is co-producing alongside Italy’s Animato and Bulgarian studio Zmei. Je Suis Bien Content is owned by Kids First, a Paris-based distributor that has acquired the global rights to The Crunchers.

The series is currently in production and slated for a fall 2023 release in France and Poland (Canal+), Italy (RAI Gulp and RAI Play) and Bulgaria (BNT). It has also received funding from organizations such as Europe Creative Media, the Italian Ministry of Culture and France’s Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée.
