After working together on two seasons of animated series YoYo, pubcaster RAI Ragazzi and prodco Showlab are building on their partnership with a new co-pro called Kapuf the Little Monster.

This 26 x 11-minute preschool “sitcom” for the three to six demo combines live action and CG animation, and will premiere on the RAI Yoyo preschool channel and streamer RAIPlay this fall.

Kapuf the Little Monster focuses on the curiosity-driven adventures had by five-year-old Kiki and her companion Kapuf as they learn how the world works. While Kapuf appears to be merely a stuffed animal to Kiki’s parents and other adults, he interacts with his young owner as a clumsy CG-animated alien.

Kapuf is written by Alessandro Zullato and David Varone, and directed by Davide Vavalà (RAI) and Stefania Gallo (Showlab). It aims to teach children the importance of important social qualities such as respect, friendship and kindness.

The titular character is animated using 3D motion-capture technology, and colorful environments and costumes are incorporated to add more cartoon aesthetics to the show’s world.

Showlab is also currently producing animated fantasy series Klincus and a second season of scripted teen drama POV – I Primi Anni, both of which will premiere on RAI Gulp by the end of this year.
