Coming out of the MIPTV market currently underway in France is news that Spain-based Zinkia Entertainment has taken a 51% stake in UK-based children’s production company Cake Entertainment. Under the joint venture, which is designed to bolster content brand management and distribution opportunities, both companies will maintain their own management, teams and identities.

Headed up by Tom van Waveren and Ed Galton, Cake works with a portfolio of production companies to develop, create, commercially position and manage their IP propositions for the international market. Properties handled by CAKE include Poppy Cat, Tom & the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam & Honey, Angelo Rules and The Sparticle Mystery.

Zinkia, meanwhile, is widely known for the success of its Pocoyo property (pictured), which has been licensed to more than 150 territories worldwide. The preschool character has garnered more than 400 million hits on YouTube and stars in a host multi-lingual apps. Zinkia’s latest property is the comedy adventure series Mola Noguru, which is being pitched to major international broadcasters and licensing companies at MIPTV.
