Cosmos-Maya is making moves. The Indian animation studio is expanding into the Indonesian market, partnering with Jakarta-based Spectrum Film to co-produce a new animated series called Putra.
The 52 x 11-minute toon follows the titular character and his friends as they fight crime and solve mysteries. It will be produced at Cosmos-Maya’s studio in India, and is expected to bow in 2021.
Cosmos-Maya will manage global rights outside of Indonesia and Sri Lanka, which will be handled by Spectrum.
In addition to boasting nearly 70 broadcast stations and a population featuring 70 million children, Indonesia also represents a significant share of the APAC region’s licensing market, which is appealing to Cosmos-Maya.
In March, WarnerMedia’s POGO and Cartoon Network greenlit Cosmos-Maya comedies Titoo and Lambuji Tinguji. Disney India, meanwhile, picked up three shows from the studio—Guddu, Bapu and Gadget Guru Ganesha.
