Disney+ has ordered a new animated spinoff of its popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Dubbed Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the new adventure from Lucasfilms will launch on the SVOD in 2021.

Bad Batch revolves around a group of experimental clone soldiers who take on daring missions as they struggle to find a new purpose other than war. The characters (pictured) were introduced in the seventh and final season of The Clone Wars, which the streamer announced in January following a six-year hiatus.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is executive produced by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance). Carrie Beck (The Mandalorian) is a co-executive producer, with Josh Rimes (Star Wars Resistance) serving as a producer. 

Star Wars: The Clone Wars was a popular show for the House of Mouse. Just one month after Disney+ launched the latest season in February, it had already become one of the most in-demand shows in North America and Europe, according to Parrot Analytics.

Disney+ has greenlit a number of other Star Wars projects since its launch, including the IP’s first game show format, Star Wars: Jedi Temple, which the SVOD will release this year. The streamer also launched The Mandalorian, a Disney+ exclusive, in November 2019. The live-action show has since been renewed for a second season that’s scheduled to premiere in October 2020.
