The European Parliament has voted in favor of having every new TV set equipped with an electronic device able to block undesirable programming. The proposal still needs to be voted by the European Commission and the European Council.
A few days before the vote in Strasbourg, a debate on TV violence was organized in the French Senate by France Télévision and the French Commission for Audiovisual. It followed the presentation in the Senate by the majority party RPR of a bill that would favor program classification by the French broadcast regulator Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel as a base for electronic coding.
